Arcos de Canasi

Arcos de Canasi, Mayabeque, Cuba

Founded in 1738, Arcos de Canasi (or simply Canasi) is the closest town from the Jibacoa Beach-resort (about 6 km). It's located at the mouth of Rio Canasi (Canasi River), and is part of the Municipality of Santa Cruz del Norte in the Mayabeque Province.

Due to frequent flooding, the town was moved to higher ground in 1808, to its actual location. The town's economy is mainly agriculture. Population of Canasi is about 2000 inhabitants.

Wandering around this little town is the perfect opportunity to get closer to the local way of life and appreciate its afrocuban culture. The surrounding countryside is beautiful; you can stop at the Cafeteria Las Palmeras for souvenirs, snacks and drinks.
